Mercat Tours have an environmental policy which underpins everything that they do. Already compliant with the Waste (Scotland) Regulations they know that their primary waste streams are card and paper, which accounts for approximately 85% of their total waste. They use technology, staff training and Green Teams to manage their recycling and this has become part of the staff culture.
As of 1 January 2014, all businesses in Scotland are legally required to separate key recyclable materials including; paper and card, plastic, metals and glass for collection. In addition, businesses which produce over 50kg of food waste per week must present their food waste for separate collection.
Businesses which produce more than 5kg of food waste per week will also have to comply with the new Waste Regulations from 1 January 2016.
